World’s Leaders latest issue “World’s Most Ambitious Women Leaders to Admire in 2024” features women business leaders who are raising awareness about the importance of women’s leadership while also helping to overcome barriers that prevent women from advancing into leadership roles. The cover has Gail Courneyea, the President & CEO of Angels of Flight Canada Inc. With 18 years of service in a hospital Intensive care setting as a Registered Nurse, Gail has honed her skills in providing critical care to patients in challenging environments, including ground ambulance transfers to tertiary hospitals. However, faced with the prospect of transitioning to air ambulance care without any prior experience, Gail embarked on a courageous journey of self-education and skill development. Determined to excel in her new role, she pursued comprehensive training in Aeromedical Care and obtained her Private Pilot’s license, overcoming her fear of flying in the process.
Women are now widely considered to be successful change agents, and diversity and gender parity in leadership and decision-making are becoming more and more important in a variety of fields. But in spite of these advancements, the percentage of women holding important decision-making positions in industry, politics, and society is still pitifully tiny.
Although women’s leadership in a variety of fields has been recognized as necessary, there is still a serious problem with the actual representation of women in positions of important decision-making. Research has indicated that the presence of more women in leadership roles can contribute to more inclusive decision-making procedures, a greater diversity of viewpoints, and ultimately better results. Nonetheless, there is also a continuing difficulty of the gender gap in leadership positions, with women being considerably underrepresented in these jobs. “World’s Most Ambitious Women Leaders to Admire in 2024” has included many names like Gail Courneyea who are working to address this and believing that there is a need for concerted efforts to promote and support women’s leadership at all levels.
