More than three months after the iPhone maker rejected such a move, Spotify (SPOT.N), opens new tab will update its app for Apple (AAPL.O), opens new tab devices in the European Union on Wednesday to reflect costs of its different plans and services.
The reason for Spotify’s rejection was that it did not recognize Apple’s Music Streaming Services Entitlement, which is a set of recently imposed rules that regulate how music streaming applications in the European Economic Area notify consumers of alternative payment options.
Although it is now adopting those terms, the Swedish audio streaming firm stated that its iOS app would not allow users to make purchases through an external link because it does not wish to pay Apple a fee on those kinds of sales.
Apple had said that adopting its rules for music streaming did not need making payments through an outside connection.
“While this is progress, it’s only a small step in the long march towards giving iPhone consumers basic product experiences they expect and deserve in their apps,” Spotify stated in a statement.
Early in April, Apple facilitated communication between music streaming applications and iOS device customers in the European Union. This came one month after Brussels fined the company 1.84 billion euros ($2 billion) for using limitations on its App Store to stifle competition from alternative music streaming services.
A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by Apple.
