When design requirements get too complicated, it’s easier to send them in for a bespoke quotation, where specialists are always available to assist. EMS PROTO, led by Pierre Yves Sempere, tackles difficulties for electronic Board designers that need to create their bespoke small series in a simple and rapid manner.
The EMSPROTO online platform allows for a free immediate estimate for electronic board projects in total autonomy. Factory production on a fully automated SMT line ensures industrial grade boards. There is no minimum order requirement and the lead time range from 2 to 12 days.
Pierre Yves Sempere is the Co-Founder of EMS PROTO. He sees automation as a significant future breakthrough for organisations. Pierre Yves Sempere, an ambitious and enthusiastic individual, with a wealth of professional expertise.
Pierre Yves Sempere met Damien MICHAUD, the other co-founder of EMSPROTO, in 2014. They were confident that their proposal to provide a new method of purchasing and producing electronics projects was brilliant. They had faith in their vision from the beginning, not only because they had been in the business for a while or because they had previously faced the issue of “how to get assemble my electronic boards in a few days in small quantity,” but also because the customer and the market were ready to be disrupted, and good timing is one of the keys to success.
Beginning to Disrupt the Market
To make this idea a reality, Pierre-Yves SEMPERE and Damien MICHAUD began meeting once a week for lengthy hours. The prospects were so enormous, and the market so open, that the business EMSPROTO was founded in September of the same year. Damien MICHAUD chose to leave in order to completely participate in the EMSPROTO adventure, which offers great growth opportunities in the design and manufacturing of electronic boards.
Since the beginning, Pierre-Yves SEMPERE’s task has been to persuade people that it is feasible to create a 2500 square meter electronic factory in a year, to alter the way customers purchase, and to change the way engineers design electronic boards. Damien is in charge of interior design and manufacturing, while Pierre-Yves is in charge of marketing and R&D.
The firm later relocated to Martillac, close to Innovatis’ headquarters, on the ground level of a building where it provided offices to local businesses. EMSPROTO, with the help of BPI, is developing an algorithm that will allow its clients to design the assembly of their electronic boards and receive an instant pricing estimate. There were just three members at the start, with a total investment of 16,000 euros, and after four years, there were thirty workers with a total investment of more than 5 million euros.
The ideas behind starting EMS PROTO
According to Pierre-Yves SEMPERE, there were two motivations for launching emsproto. The first was to bring to market a website capable of quoting hundreds of electronic components, verifying the possibility of board production, verifying stock in real time, ordering the number of boards (between 1 and 50), and doing so all in 15 minutes.
The second concept was to implement a new industrial method that would allow for the rapid assembly of any type of electronic board. In addition, creating a new industrial process in a 40-year-old industry with the same quality and dependability as any big quantity electronic assembly facility is not a simple feat.
Improvements for Betterment
Pierre-Yves SEMPERE wishes to enhance internal communication inside the firm in order to put people at the centre of the organisation. “Improve how individuals exchange information to make the correct judgement at the appropriate time,” he says. Also, have a social objective and an influence on society; be beneficial to the people who work with EMS PROTO as well as the general public.
Aside from internal communication and culture, Pierre-Yves SEMPERE is also attempting to add new capabilities to its website and factory. It has upgraded the algorithm utilised in the company’s online quotation tool to identify prices and stock components faster and more reliably. The fresh new function, which will be available in NOVEMBER, is remarkable, and engineers will be able to design any cable online, receive a quotation, and purchase the cable in small quantities with a short lead time.
Changes that the pandemic has brought
The epidemic has altered how people communicate. The tension, the anxiety, the fact that individuals are hiding their faces behind masks, and the concerns about the purpose of work have all contributed to a lack of business trust. As a result, it has been difficult to make sound judgments, motivate others, and have hope in the future. EMSPROTO operates in the electronic sector, therefore electrical component shortages are a major concern for us; they have caused a lot of disorganisation and production delays.
Tackling Challenges
Pierre-Yves SEMPERE is enthusiastic about his work. He feels that in electronics, passion is the most important factor in communicating. “Every day, my colleagues and I strive to overcome obstacles, try to modify the way we face challenges, try not to have a glass ceiling in our reflection, try to brainstorm new,” he says. To assure creativity, he challenges his coworkers frequently, and they are eager to go above the limit. Also, the company’s personnel is nicely balanced between male and female employees, as well as between young and elderly persons (21 years old to 56 years old), which adds social intelligence and knowledge.
The two founders have been working in order to be surrounded by many experts and this has become a time savings for the customer, as well as for EMSPROTO, which has put up a completely automated circuit to manufacture the boards swiftly and precisely. It is one of just two firms in Europe that provides this service. Many clients submit purchases, but EMSPROTO encounters several technical issues, including consumers who fail to indicate when encrypting all of the card’s components. To address this and help clients better qualify their needs, the firm hired four additional employees to handle in-house research and development.
A Visionary Leader with a Proven Success Mantra
According to Pierre-Yves SEMPERE, in order to succeed, one must be able to rely on a relevant and reasoned economic model from the start. After spending a few years in the United Kingdom, Pierre-Yves SEMPERE saw a distinct difference in attitude when it came to business. Whereas Anglo-Saxons establish a graded business model with clear targets from the start, French company executives appear to lack ambition or even to be “afraid to succeed” at times.
A tight-knit and efficient team is also essential to success. Pierre-Yves has been able to surround himself with an engaged, adaptable, and competitive staff through professional meetings. Aside from that, human interactions are an important component of his company’s long-term viability. Pierre-Yves SEMPERE recognises this and provides his staff with a high level of autonomy and oversight. Employees who are “a little like him” and are participating in projects that are driven by a desire to achieve.
Furthermore, interacting with major corporations and inspirational networks such as BNI France enabled him to further his entrepreneurial career. Similarly, BPI and Bordeaux Unitec have been effective and active in supporting Pierre-Yves SEMPERE for many years EMSPROTO becomes EMSFACTORY!
A new factory at the state of the art
EMSPROTO takes on a new dimension, after a dazzling and exciting evolution since the launch of the first web platform EMSPROTO.com on July 1, 2015.
This rapid development is leading us today to a total resizing of our production plant. We are moving from our first building of 400m² to a brand new factory of more than 3000m², which we have completely designed and adapted to our activity. It is a factory that is above all ecological, with reinforced insulation, a free cooling ventilation system to limit electricity consumption and an 83KW solar panel shade which greatly reduces our carbon footprint when you use our services. Indeed, we are almost autonomous in electrical energy!
A fourth SMT line will be equipped with new and latest generation Mycronic machines, a MY700 for jetting and a MY300-DX for pick and place, to ensure faster assembly and support increasingly complex component packages.
EMSFACTORY expand the services offered by adding cable assembly, coating, X-ray radiography, and soon enclosures machining, integration of products, as well as many other options such as adding labels, saving RX pictures of your boards.
