Paul Meredith began working as a mortgage broker in 2007, at a time when the American real estate market was falling. He entered the industry following a series of unpleasant experiences with large banks, which encouraged him to pursue a career in this profession. Today, Paul is a successful mortgage broker at CityCan Financial, where he is leading a team (the Paul Meredith Team) that is known for providing excellent mortgage advice and customer service. He asserts, “I figured there had to be a better way. I came into this industry to ensure people got the same level of service and advice that I would have wanted when I needed a mortgage for my first home. I’ve treated all my clients since family ever since and have never looked back.”
Leading the Team of Experts
Under the umbrella of CityCan Financial, Paul runs the Paul Meredith Team. Paul does not always get to deal with every one of his clients directly. But he is always there in the background ensuring that everything runs smoothly. The talented team of mortgage professionals has been extensively trained by him to ensure that all the clients get the same great experience dealing with them as they would if they were dealing with Paul.
Paul aims to keep a fun working environment, both when working from the office and during Zoom meetings when working remotely. He says, “Just as my clients are like family to me, my team is as well. We’re not only co-workers, but we’re also good friends who are all committed to one common goal: To ensure our clients receive a better experience with their mortgage than they will get anywhere else.” The whole team is committed to delivering this experience to every client. He mentions, “Our clients mean everything to us, so we do everything we can to ensure they feel like family during the process. There is no bigger reward than delivering a great experience to a client. The happier we can make them, the happier we are, which is what motivates us to continue delivering on this promise day in day out.”
Everyone Is Given The Same Advice He Would Give To Family
It’s all about the family care that CityCan Financial provides to all of its clients with the Paul Meredith Team. The team at CityCan Financial is dedicated to ensuring that everyone receives the same guidance. Paul opines, “We’re committed to ensuring everyone gets the same advice we would give to our own mothers if we were doing their mortgages. One of the key reasons for our success is because we put the clients ahead of ourselves.” We believe in building client relationships for life, and to do so, we realize we may not get their business every single time. We will always give the advice that is best suited to our clients.”
He also believes in giving back to the community and donates a portion of all mortgage proceeds to the Canadian Alliance To End Homelessness. Last year, Paul donated over $25,000.
Adding More Team Members to Embrace Success Steadiness
With accommodating more staff, CityCan Financial has seen explosive growth over the last several years. The management expects this growth to continue for years to come. The company has hired two new team members in the past couple of months and is still looking at hiring more.
With larger offices the businesses starting to re-open in Ontario, the company is planning on returning to its office work environment soon. Paul says, “We’ll be looking for a larger space to accommodate expected growth.”
Also, the firm is aiming for a significantly stronger online presence while the Paul Meredith Team currently has one. “There is always room to grow it even further. This is a never-ending work in progress,” says Paul.
100% Committed to Success
Paul believes that the greatest risk he has ever taken to be entering the mortgage sector at a time when the US home market was collapsing. He recalls, “I left a stable, salaried job for a profession that pays 100% commission and has a failure rate of 90%. I took failure out of the equation, however. I did not make it an option. I was 100% committed to success, and I have not looked back since. It’s this level of commitment that has led me to become one of the top mortgage brokers in Canada.”
Work Hard while Enjoying the Life Equally
Paul sees himself as passionate about his work. He asserts, “I am a workaholic, so the work never stops, but I also believe in balance at the same time.” He further adds, “Without taking the time out to enjoy the things you love, the work starts to become less enjoyable. We all need to refresh, and by maintaining somewhat of a balance, we become even more productive and can accomplish even greater things. It’s when we make it all about work that we can burn ourselves out, which then leads to not only poor productivity, but also to poor health.”
Both work and life balance are equally important in Paul’s thinking. He says, “Make the work fun, and maintain a balance in life. This is what allows us to be both successful and fulfilled. Success without fulfillment is a recipe for misery. Who cares how successful you are in that case? A work-life balance is important to become successful not just in your career, but in life as well.”
Future Endeavors
In the next 5 years, Paul expects to increase the volume and the staff four times than present. The Paul Meredith Team has shown an exceptional amount of growth over the past 5 years alone and has done five times the volume it was doing back then. Paul says, “There is no reason why we can’t do the same over the next five years.”
