Today’s aviation sector is lacking in crucial leadership expertise since more than half (59%) of women in leadership roles in the sector have thought about quitting. Women are more likely to be forced out of the profession because of bad experiences, but males are more likely to be drawn away by the promise of greater prospects. Greater and more noticeable roles for women are emerging in the sector.
There have never been more women in top positions in the aviation sector. Still, there is a leadership gap as a result of the prejudices and obstacles faced by female leaders that continue to limit their development and influence. There is a growing trend for people of all genders to adopt leadership styles that support successful women in business and the organizations they manage, as more women assume high-ranking positions.
Lindsey Gamell is a skilled and seasoned company leader and manager who is extremely passionate about aviation, is well-versed in the laws and rules pertaining to FAA compliance, and develops and upholds policies and procedures. She skillfully manages teams, production, maintenance work orders, supply and inventory, and ensures customer satisfaction and support in her role as business development and program manager at TP Aerospace. To improve organizational strategy, she cultivates long-lasting connections with stakeholders, senior management, and customers.
After graduating from high school in 2002, Lindsey began working in aviation. She comes from a highly varied background in the industry. She began in general aviation, working in different office support functions and learning the fundamentals of aviation maintenance. After that, she briefly worked as a flight attendant for an airline. She then entered the area of maintenance repair organizations (MRO), which is essentially where she is currently as TP Aerospace is a part 145 repair station. For most of her career, Lindsey worked as a maintenance planner, arranging heavy maintenance projects on airplanes, which in layman terms entailed organizing the whole work scope and process for disassembling an airplane fully, inspecting it, and then putting it back together to get it back in the air.
The Leading Aviation Aftermarket Supplier
As the top aftermarket provider of aircraft wheels and brakes, TP Aerospace provides all of its clients with an easy substitute for conventional component management. It excels at what it does because it has a narrow focus. The firm ensures quality, simplicity, and value for all of its clients globally, wherever they may be, at any time. It combines market experience with substantial MRO capabilities and a global network. The Honeywell 737 Classic Series is distributed solely by TP Aerospace.
TP Aerospace provides its airline clients with the highest level of flexibility and cost transparency through its integrated programs, all of which are powered by its pay-as-you-go model. Customers of the program benefit from an all-inclusive approach that is supported by an excellent warranty, a guarantee of stock availability, and first-rate customer service.
The staff is committed to serving its clients and is aware of the many difficulties faced by aircraft operators. When enrolled in a program with TP Aerospace, its clients are given a personal program manager who is intimately familiar with their requirements and serves as a sparring partner in streamlining their wheels and brake operations.
Being an Aviation Leader
At TP Aerospace, Lindsey’s duties include leading a group of Customer Executives that, together with her, handle all of the program accounts for the North American region. This includes managing contracts, visiting with clients to report on KPIs; monitoring daily operations; and managing the technical facets of asset management, including establishing priorities with the business’ internal MRO shop. Lindsey also works to provide awareness and brand familiarity in her business development role. She primarily focuses on cultivating new clients and working to tailor programs for airlines which are comprehensive, simple and all-inclusive, therefore alleviating client’s pain-points in the wheel and brake realm.
Every day, Lindsey looks forward to coming to work at TP Aerospace. She enjoys the challenge and rewards of it. She adores the company culture and values which include staying curious, having fun, remaining focused, leading, and keeping it simple. She appreciates how unique every day is and that no two days are the same.
She mentions, “Every day I seek to bring a little bit of fun to the workplace. Everybody knows me for bringing a little bit of sass, but also that I try to motivate everyone to make the most of every day. Basically to just be the best they can be, remain focused on the people and enjoy every day and the challenges it brings. Over time, this is what translates into success.”
Lindsey aspires to be a mover and shaker in the industry and was ranked number 12 out of the top 100 Women in Aerospace to follow on LinkedIn. Lindsey has overcome many challenges and impediments to reach the top with twenty years of experience, a B.S. in Aviation Security from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, as well as a minor in Aeronautics. She has experience in the airline and MRO industries and is passionate about aviation. Lindsey offers an ounce of sass and smarts as she seeks to bust those glass ceilings and to inspire others along the way. She focuses on positivity and lifting up her fellow leading ladies.
Her life’s purpose is to bring value and shine her bright, shiny light into a dark world. She is passionate about the aviation industry and considers it her first true love.
On Workplace Upgrade
According to Lindsey, there are still too few female leaders in the aviation sector. She personally feels that it should never be assumed that one gender is superior to the other, but rather thinks that “Together, we can bring two different perspectives to the table. Working together and having a better balance of that male to female ratio, will bring more understanding, higher creativity, better innovation, and will provide more effective problem solving.” She believes that for an organization to truly flourish and reach its full potential, it is crucial to have diversity which offers differing viewpoints and opinions.
Pandemic Effect
Because of its very nature, the aviation sector was one of the most impacted during the epidemic. The effect of so many airplanes being grounded and the fear to travel was terrible on the industry. One of the difficulties, according to Lindsey, was to just have a good attitude about things since, for a while, everyone’s moods were a little gloomy due to all the layoffs and grounded aircraft. The freight market was flourishing, and the TP Aerospace team was able to support the surge and keep our cargo operators flying and delivering goods. Lindsey recalls, “We were able to shift our focus to the cargo airliners, and provide that level of support that they needed to make sure medical supplies were getting distributed. You know, everyone was ordering from Amazon, or other online venues at that time because we were all home so the freighter market was essential.” She further adds, “It was rewarding to know that we took part in ensuring products and supplies were flowing and supply chain didn’t come to a halt during that time.”
Longing for Constant Learning
Lindsey has the opinion that if a person is the brightest person in the room, they need to change rooms. By surrounding oneself with smarter, brighter and more driven people, one will be challenged further and pushed to grow. In both her professional and personal friendship circles, she made an effort to live by this philosophy. She considers herself a lifelong learner and never loses her curiosity all in an effort to continually grow.
Lindsey is tenacious and unyielding in her quest for achievement and self-improvement. She has a strong sense of passion for all she undertakes. She has a passion for flying that extends beyond the workplace and into her personal life. She enjoys flying for leisure, traveling, and attending air shows to simply be near aircraft. She opines, “I’m definitely passionate about it and I’m a believer that, you know, life is too short to be miserable. So always chase the things that bring you joy and happiness, and aviation is something that has done that for me.”
Being a very upbeat individual, Lindsey always tries to inspire, elevate, and inject a little bit of laughter and joy into the lives of others. She believes that one should always maintain things in good humor. She is a mother of two children, a girl who is 13 and a boy who is 15. When she is not working or traveling for business, she says her children occupy most of her leisure time. She is proud to note that both of her kids are enrolled in aviation programs at their separate schools. She asserts, “I’m bringing the next generation of aviators up. That’s pretty exciting for me.”
For growth, Lindsey frequently listens to audiobooks or podcasts in her free time, so she is always learning something new, developing herself, or working to cultivate new leadership qualities. She thinks that today’s leaders are so dynamic because there are so many opportunities for individuals to continue to learn, develop, and grow. She believes that the future of leadership looks bright, and asserts, “There’s always room for improvement, but I feel like people are hungry to improve and grow more so now than ever before.”
Success that Makes an Impact
Success for Lindsey means making an impact and leaving a legacy. She states, “I remember a handful of people throughout my career who have made an impact in my life, and I’m going to remember them forever.”
As a businesswoman, Lindsey aspires to add value to her firm, to always strive to improve, to be present for her team, and to simply support development so that more people may succeed. She continues by saying that TP Aerospace has further openings at the table for new members.
Growing Leaps and Bounds Rapidly
Lindsey reveals that her professional objectives are focused on raising awareness and familiarity for the company as well as expanding its programs division. She wants everyone to know the TP Aerospace name. Lindsey states “We are proud of the organization and the team we have developed. We want everyone to know who we are, what we do, and what motivates us, which is customer satisfaction. At the end of the day, that is everything.”
Words for the Younger Generation
“Find the thing that you’re most passionate about, and pursue it relentlessly, even if you’re unsure exactly where you fit in, or how. I think too many people settle. And we have enough people in the world who are living mediocre lives and sidelining their dreams. We need more leaders who are on fire for what they do, and shine their bright shiny lights into the world, which then in turn inspires others to go out and do the same and to live with purpose.”– Lindsey Gamell.
