The dinosaurs of our youth don’t exist today. Why then do women of color still face the crippling stereotypes that they are undereducated or unworthy of a jet-set lifestyle and pages of passport stamps? These stigmas are still prevalent and widely used today.
There is no truth to the claim that we don’t want to be represented in domestic or international travel, but the dominant narrative in the travel industry did not accurately represent the African diaspora.
The aforementioned information was sufficient for our founder, Danny, to launch an Instagram account in January 2015 that has since gathered over 100K followers, mostly experience-seeking people with dark skin. Numbers don’t lie; we are prepared and deserving to follow our passions, discover this breathtaking world, and alter the course of history.
Black Girls Travel Too develops travel experiences that bring Black women to life and range from the Barbados islands to the most revered cultural sites in the UK and elsewhere.

Meet The Founder
A pioneer in the black travel movement, a socially conscious businesswoman, wife, mother, and mentor to many, she grew up in underserved and overlooked communities throughout Mobile, Alabama, without any nascent aspirations to stray off the beaten track. Black Girls Travel Too (BGTT) founder Dianelle Rivers-Mitchell (Danny) embodies the phrase “Started from the bottom, and now we’re here” because she was fortunate enough to avoid becoming a failure or a statistic.
Danny’s journey began with one woman, Ms. Lugood, who gave her and her peers the opportunity to see more, do more, and become more when they were young. She was committed to establishing new, jet-setting generational cycles among the black community, especially with black women. only one class trip to Washington, D.C.
D.C. may not be a popular travel destination for everyone, but keep your perspective. For a Black, underprivileged youth from Mobile, Alabama, this was like traveling to London in the first week of August!
In front of her eyes, during that single trip from Mobile to Washington, D.C., it seemed as though a motion picture transitioned from black and white to vibrant full color. Danny’s first trip demonstrated how the excitement and power of traveling can change your viewpoint and reveal your purpose.
While still impressionable, this experience would not be forgotten, unlike many events in one’s upbringing. The benefits of this trip far exceeded her expectations!
After visiting the memorials, museums, and monuments, Danny was barely recognizable as the enthusiastic but uninspired young woman who had only recently arrived in Washington, DC.
The seed had been planted, and as the years passed and she became a wife, mother, corporate career woman, and finally a business owner, the seed was continually nurtured. Finally, Black Girls Travel Too, today’s abundant harvest, came to be.
Danny believes that one decision to venture outside of Mobile, Alabama saved her life from being mediocre, and she has vowed to give other women the same chance to embark on a journey within themselves to truly discover who they are. Danny loves to share how obedience challenges us but must be prioritized like our lives depend on it because they do, even though her journey is still “en route.”
Currently, if you wanted to catch Danny in her element, you’d probably find her volunteering abroad or lounging around in her sweats at home eating honey bunches of oats while binge-watching The Blacklist after listening to Gary Vaynerchuk or Eric Thomas! Right, in a perfect world! But she comes first as a mother to Madison & Liam and as a wife to her wonderful husband Oliver! Moreover, a rapping, dancing, and cooking one! She enjoys traveling, thriving, and making memories with her family at night while building the BGTT empire during the day.
