Describe who you are as a person, inside and outside of the workplace.
As a person, I believe we are all equal. No one is cut from a different cloth. What differentiates us is our mindset. Mindset is more important than skill sets. That’s why it’s often said our attitude determines our altitude. The difference between what we want and what we have is what our thoughts are. The human mind is powerful and creates anything it wants. Humans have survived for millions of years because of the strength of our minds. We are able to live underwater and in space because of the incredible power of the human mind.
Describe your background and what did you do before you started/joined the company?
Before joining this company, I gained valuable experience in Science & Business at the University of California, Davis by doing my degree in Managerial Economics and taking up several elective classes in biochemistry, which I believe will be valuable in my role as Managing Director at Accurex.
I also briefly worked in the California Diabetes Prevention Program, Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), California. This gave me insights into the challenges modern society is experiencing due to lifestyle changes that have happened rapidly in human civilization. These lifestyle changes, like sedentary lifestyles and junk food consumption, have caused a huge burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the world. Many people are suffering due to preventable lifestyle diseases like diabetes.
Overall, my background has provided me with a diverse set of experiences and skills that I believe will be an asset to Accurex and the diagnostics industry.
Tell us about the inception of the company. How did it all start?
It all started with my father, Mr. Anil Thakur, a name known in the diagnostic industry, who was the founder and past Managing Director of Accurex Biomedical. Mr. Thakur was eminently qualified and had rich experience in the diagnostic industry for more than 30 years. After graduating from Mumbai University, he began his professional career in 1976 with Miles India Ltd., a USA-based multinational in the field of diagnostics). His association with Miles India Ltd. lasted until 1984, during which he held various important positions in the organization.
In 1984, he founded Accurex. Accurex, with a core competency in clinical biochemistry, was the first company in India to manufacture enzymatic reagent kits. All manufacturing processes, from basic raw materials to finished products, were done in-house.
What has made you successful? What do you value?
I believe the right mindset is the most important factor that has helped me make Accurex survive and thrive. I strongly believe your attitude determines your altitude. With the right mindset and positive attitude, we can achieve anything we want.

The foundation of culture is integrity. A strong foundation built on integrity is very important to build a culture in the organization. Because if there is integrity in the organization, then only the team will believe in the mission, vision, and values of the company.

What are your responsibilities as the Managing Director of the company? What is the happiest part of your daily routine?
As the Managing Director of the company, my primary responsibility is to provide leadership and strategic direction to ensure the overall success of the business. This includes developing and implementing business strategies, managing operations, building and maintaining relationships with clients and stakeholders, and overseeing the performance of all departments within the company. I also have a responsibility to ensure that the company is adhering to legal and regulatory requirements, maintaining a positive company culture, and promoting employee development and growth.
In terms of the happiest part of my daily routine, it is definitely when I have the opportunity to interact with my team and collaborate on new initiatives or projects. I truly enjoy working with my colleagues and finding ways to innovate and improve the business. I also find it very rewarding when I am able to mentor and support my team members, whether it be through coaching, training, or professional development opportunities. Overall, I am passionate about what I do and take great pride in the work that we do as a team.
What advice would you give someone going into a leadership position for the first time?
Here are some pieces of advice I would give to someone going into a leadership position for the first time: Listen and learn: As a new leader, it’s important to listen to your team members and stakeholders to understand their perspectives, needs, and concerns. Take the time to learn about the company’s culture, processes, and history, as well as the industry and market trends.
Remember that leadership is a journey, and it’s okay to make mistakes and learn from them. Be humble, adaptable, and committed to ongoing growth and development as a leader.
