Aster Angagaw, the president of ServiceMaster Brands, was born and reared in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the seventh of ten children. She is a business leader, a mother, a wife, a sister, a friend, an author, and she likes to read, work out, and spend time with her loved ones. In order to attain long-term success in her job and life, she relies on striking a dynamic balance in her career, community, personal development, self-care, and overall goals.
She most recently held the position of President of ServiceMaster Brands, a major supplier of necessary services to residential and commercial clients, which is a $2.6 billion franchise services subsidiary of ServiceMaster Global Holdings Inc. (NYSE: SERV).
Ms. Angagaw oversaw the division’s $1.6 billion sale to a private equity company last year. She held a number of top management positions at Sodexo SA (Euronext: SW), an international diversified services company with its headquarters in Paris, 440,000 workers, and an annual sales of over $20 billion, prior to joining ServiceMaster.
She has a strong track record of achievement in operations, strategy and business growth, organizational change, and customer retention throughout her 23 years at Sodexo. She advanced to the position of Chief Executive Officer, Healthcare North America, where she was responsible for 6,000 workers who managed clinical technology, buildings, and services for prestigious hospitals and children’s cancer clinics in the US and Canada. Previously, she held notable positions at Sodexo, including Group Vice President for Global Transformation, where she assisted in leading the shift from country-specific business units to a unified global model, Senior Vice President, Global Head of Sales and Business Development, where she oversaw business development and established a unified global sales organization for the global Healthcare segment.
Aster has won many awards and been featured on several lists, including Savoy magazine’s list of the Most Influential Women in Corporate America and Black Enterprise magazine’s list of the Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America and Most Powerful Women in Business. She was also given the Leadership Excellence Award by the Diversity Leadership Council. Aster received the prestigious 400 Award from the 400 Years of African American History Commission in 2020.
