Below are the highlights of the interview conducted between World’s Leaders and Anish Kuttan, General Manager at the Hyatt Regency Thrissur.
Kindly brief us about the most satisfactory experience with a client. What kind of game-changing services have you provided to them?
Events have changed. So have we. Working closely with planners to understand the challenges and opportunities ahead, Hyatt has recently launched ‘Together By Hyatt’ to not only reimagine what events can be but to provide guests with all the support they need to organise events safely, seamlessly and creatively.
Hybrid events have extended the reach to include virtual attendees and speakers and to allow more people to be part of each experience, whether at conferences or weddings. The launch of the Wedding Gourmet Box is a significant move in that direction. Recently, we had a client whose wedding guests were not able to attend the ceremony and reception due to the COVID restrictions, but the team stepped up to provide them with a seamless experience via live streaming of the ceremony as well as sending them the wedding gourmet boxes right to their doorstep. All the close and extended family members and friends were able to experience the wedding of a loved one while sitting in the comfort and safety of their homes.
How well does your organisation strategically differentiate from the competition in terms of the capabilities of its services? How clear is your organization’s strategy for this?
Hyatt Regency Thrissur is the first branded international 5-star hotel in Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala. That sets it apart from other luxury hotels in the city. With modern amenities and luxurious facilities, the hotel boasts of having the highest suite inventory in the city, with views of either the landscape or the city skyline. The hotel has also grown considerably since it opened its doors in early 2020 and is now on par with other Hyatt hotels in the region.

What are the changes the pandemic has brought to the hotel booking and travel industry?
We have embraced new technologies such as touchless payments, app-based services, augmented or virtual reality and more to make guest experiences safe and seamless. As the world navigates the new normal, we are focused on rebuilding and restructuring business based on the operational knowledge of the previous year.
The shift to small, intimate get-togethers and personalised mindful weddings has given us the opportunity to plan reimagined experiences for our guests. We have adapted to the roadblocks of the pandemic by designing creative takeaways, including Sunday Brunch and delivery options.
Is integrated channel management available as part of the company’s services?
We have recognised the possibility of our dining components going digital and have taken steps to ensure that they are all accessible to guests with a single click.Whether it is the World of Hyatt app, Hyatt Dining Club website or the brand websites itself, Hyatt has focused on keeping guests’ requirements paramount.
What are the three things you would like to improve in the organisation or the sector?
Supply Chain Management
Food miles, or how far the food has travelled, play a vital role in sustainability. It is not just about serving healthy and organic food, but promoting the local communities and ingredients. We would like to integrate the local community with every aspect of supply chain management. They are our business partners.

Hyatt Regency Thrissur has embraced various techniques, including rainwater harvesting and energy conservation measures, to be an environmentally compliant hotel. There will be an aquaponics set up at the hotel which will also be connected to a natural fish-harvesting pond.
We would like to develop a green belt and adopt sustainable waste management techniques. The hotel’s sustainable activities will be overseen by an Environment Monitoring Cell.Because we care.
Tell us about your vision for the company. How do you ensure a culture of integrity and innovation in the company?
We have introduced Hyatt Thinking where associates at different levels come together to generate new ideas and find creative solutions. The process inculcates an empathy-based approach. A dedicated ‘Innovation Team’ conducts monthly meetings to discuss and develop new approaches to deliver energising experiences to our guests.
